I think I bought it from Nuance however there is the possibility that it came with my HP ScanJet 8300. Four or five years ago has a way of deminishing even the most suttle of intelligence. Perhaps HP has a different way of doing things by osmosis since it worked fine on my old machine.
Thanks again for your input, I truly do appreciate it. Since the istallation ended up as as a trial version I was able to do a repair intsall. But I guess that's not a new problem. Let's figure what caused it.
I'll guess first. The s/w is older than Win 7 64 bit so I found a bug in PaperPort?
Win 7 64 bit has a bug? I created an account just so I can say 'OH WOW' Jeff you went way out of your way, to eliminate yourself from the troubleshooting check list. A little over kill. Serial manufactures don't use the letter 'I' or 'O' it is always 1 and 0.

'Doesn't fit' is not just vague it actually broadens the scope of possibilities. Could not have just said 'it has 1 digit too many' or whatever the case, or you just did not have the vocabulary to describe something useful.
Maybe you weren't the problem, but you became the problem.
